The Coastal Cupboard was
opened by The Pitner Family in August of 2005. John and Lori Pitner
owned and operated clothing stores throughout northern Colorado
since 1982. Their primary store, J. Pitner Clothing Co. was located
in downtown Ft. Collins, across the street from The Cupboard, a
gourmet kitchen store owned by their family friends Mr. and Mrs.
Carey Hewitt.
After selling their stores in Colorado
and moving to Mt. Pleasant, SC with their four younger children,
John began talking with Carey about opening a similar store.
He and Lori had always loved The Cupboard, and were very excited
at the idea of starting a local specialty kitchen store in
the lowcountry. They shared the idea with their older children,
who at that time were spread across the United States. Within
a few months Amy, Annie, Robert (we call him Bob), Brad, and
his wife Joy had all joined the rest of the family in Mt. Pleasant,
and the rest is, as they say… history.
